Hyderabad: Ahead of the Telangana State Elections 2023, a Hyderabad-based not-for-the-profit organisation – Lets Vote Foundation is conducting ‘5K Walk’ at Gachibowli Stadium on November 25, 2023 morning 6.30 am. It has associated with India Startup Foundation, HYSEA (Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association) and TASK (Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge).

The ‘5K Walk’ is being organised in co-ordination with Chief Election Officer at New Delhi. The main objective of the event is to bring awareness among more youth on the upcoming elections and encourage them to cast their vote. The polling is scheduled to take place on November 3o, and the counting is scheduled to take place on 3 December 2023.

JA Chowdary, Founder of Lets Vote Foundation, said: “This voluntary organisation was founded 15 years back, and since then we have been doing this kind of activities before every general elections and Assembly polls. We have recently organise awareness campaigns ahead of the Assembly elections at Karnataka. Earlier, we have conducted cycle rallies, colony/ corporate meetings and marathons.”

“Many young techies don’t exercise their right to vote. On the day of voting, they go to a movie or a temple without doing their basic duty. When they don’t vote during elections, they don’t have the right to seek anything from the governments. If they don’t even participate in the election process, how would they question any discrepancy,” he asked.

Chowdary further explains, “Some of the youth have a misconception that what will happen with my one vote? To bring awareness among such people, we are conducting several camps, meetings, and rallies. We are sensitising the eligible urban citizens to go for e-registration for obtaining EPIC. We are helping in establishing e-registration counters and providing them necessary guidance.”

“We use a people-first approach. We understand that development is a people-centric process, and that voting is a means, not an end, to choosing the right team. We want to focus on the significance of casting one’s vote and its role in enabling society and spur growth & development. We are also encouraging people to do digital walks among the HYSEA members,” he added.

Let’s Vote Foundation is hosting such awareness programmes in other cities also. It has lined up various activities in Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneshwar. Its team is actively working on getting the necessary permissions to hold similar programmes in more cities before the elections.
